The 1969-70 season wasn’t one of the greatest in Purdue’s basketball history, although it was a good one that produced an 18-6 record. But it happens to be the one for which I have a highlight video.
It was notable in that it was the senior season of Rick Mount, who was a first-team All-America selection and Big Ten MVP as a junior and senior. Mount set the school’s single-game and single-season scoring records that season, with the highlight of his 61-point game against Iowa. He averaged 35.4 points, still the school record, and finished his career with 2,323 points. That’s also still the school recordĀ although he played just three seasons, before freshman were eligible for varsity competition.
This video was obviously directed toward recruits. It’s typical of its day. You can see coach George King was a natural communicator. You can also see that Mount scored a lot of points that season.
