I had covered races in which Al Jr. competed, but never met him until I went to his RV in the Speedway infield for this conversation. He couldn’t have been nicer, and there was so much to talk about it spilled over into two episodes.
This one focuses on his upbringing and early racing career. You would think growing up an Unser in the racing world would be like living life with a silver spoon in your mouth, but it wasn’t always that way.
You just don’t know what it means to win the Indy 500, but he’ll try to tell you.
