Mel Daniels loved his horses, as you can see in this video I shot at his ranch in 2012. It's brief, but it seems to capture the characteristics that made him so popular with so many people. The innocent smile, the soft heart and the hard-nosed trash talking, all in one.

This  horse was named Murph, after former Pacers forward Troy Murphy. Daniels named most of his horses after Pacers players and other people associated with basketball.
