Young grew up in difficult circumstances in Gary, and moved to Indianapolis to live with a relative. He was all-state at Northwest and an Indiana All-Star, then signed with IUPUI. He averaged 17.5 points over his career there, and was considered a solid NBA draft prospect because of his size for a wing (6-6) and athleticism, but wasn’t drafted.
He played in Italy and then was on Golden State’s Summer League team in 2013, but didn’t make the Warriors roster. I’ve lost track of him, but hopefully basketball will turn out to be a tool that brings a better life. He had put on an impressive display in his life to get to the point of this conversation, though.
