He had the misfortune of being a really good player on some really bad teams with the Colts before and after they moved to Indianapolis. It wasn’t anything new, though, because he’d been a really good player on some even worse teams in college at Northwestern.
I once drove him to Fort Wayne to be the featured speaker at a high school all-city football banquet. He told a great joke, which he recalls here. Being a smart guy, he had plenty to do after football though, such as become a wine expert and salesman.
He’s not your everyday former NFL player, for sure.
