This conversation was conducted in the off-season, after his third season with the Pacers. His career was on an upward trajectory then, and would continue that way until midway through the 2013-14 season. In fact, the fourth season would bring his first All-Star appearance.
Hibbert is complex, and at times confusing, as you’ll probably be able to tell from this conversation. You have to admire his humble nature and his dedication to improvement. He doesn’t, however, have the greatest athletic mentality, something largely out of his control. Maybe you’ll understand why after hearing his story. You might like him better, though.
This episode aired a few times, as he made All-Star teams and continued to advance his career. That career eventually headed south, though, and he never recovered. That’s a long story, and worthy of another show. Now he’s a Laker. Hopefully the fresh start does him good.
